Description

This consignment 1949 Martin D-28 (109997) comes to the shop in completely crack-free condition and showing moderate pick wear on the top and capo wear on the rear of the neck. The penetrating voice is very clear and strong, with a medium-low string height from a neck reset and refret for easy play. The Brazilian rosewood back and sides are pretty dense, with a ringing tap tone. The medium grain of the dark Sitka spruce top is located at the center joint, with closer grain at the edges. The pick wear is located mostly around the pickguard. Capo marks on the back of the neck appear at frets 1-6. There is one filled top gouge between the bridge and tail in line with the treble foot of the bridge. The early period Kluson deluxe tuners are smooth turning and rattle-free.The bridge pins are replacements with abalone dots and a strap button has been added to the treble side of the heel. Most recently, Alan Perlman gave the guitar a needed fingerboard planing and refret, as well as installing the new set of ungrooved bridge pins. This D-28 is an excellent combination rhythm and lead guitar for bluegrass playing and has a versatile function in a wide variety of settings. With original Lifton hardshell case.
