Description
This extremely well preserved consignment 1941 Gibson Super Jumbo 200 (Batch Number 3168G XX) well represents the earlier rosewood version of the top of the line 17″ Jumbo size “King Of the Flat Tops”. The consigning owner wishes to keep the exact Batch Number confidential until the sale is completed. The features are standard for the era and include: Even grain Adirondack spruce top, Straight grain rosewood sides and back with simple chain link centerline purfling, Two piece flame figured Maple neck with the original gold plated cord strap bracket attachment, Gold plated sealed back Kluson tuners with catalin buttons, Cream colored headstock binding with black-cream-black purling, Pearl script “Gibson” logo, Pearl “crown” inlay, Black and white truss rod cover, Bone nut with a 1 11/16″ width, Brazilian rosewood square end fingerboard with pearl crown inlays, Cream binding, and black-cream-black side purling, 25 1/2″ string scale, Soundhole purfling is 7 layer cream and black outside ring and cream-black-cream on the inner ring, Engraved and inlaid floral pattern pickguard, Dark rosewood “moustache” cutout bridge with pearl blocks, single drop-in saddle, yellowed cream pins, and bridge bolts, Double X top bracing, Cream endpin with original gold cord strap attachment bracket.
The guitar is quite clean, with the only pick wear found on the bass side of the top adjacent to the low E string between the bridge and sound hole. The single ding on the bass side of the top adjacent to the sound hole has a small sliding scratch through it. There is another small scratch (not a crack) on the treble side of the top near the edge of the upper bout. The single small and shallow crack is located in the treble side near the heel at about the level of the inside lining. Except for a possible replacement bone bridge saddle, all of the parts are original. It is estimated that less than 160 rosewood examples of the Super Jumbo 200 were made before 1944. This guitar is one of the very cleanest and most original guitars from this group that I have seen. The guitar easily responds to a pick with a large, even voice. With the original black hardshell case and a heavy duty Hoffee shipping case.
An appointment is required to audition this guitar, as it is not stored in the shop.
The consigning owner wishes to remain completely anonymous, so the complete batch number will be made generally available only after the sale is completed.
