Martin after 1970
There are plenty of great Martin guitars that have been made after 1970, particularly those made in the last 10 years. I especially like those made with extra stiff Adirondack Spruce tops that give a snappy clear treble to go along with the famous Martin bass. Personal favorites are new D-18GE and D-18A and some OM and 12 fret OOO models that I get in trade with Martin dealers.
Coming Soon: 1999 OM-28V, 1994 D-45 Gene Autry, 2008 D-18A
This "Guitar of The Month" model is in especially clean, near mint, condition and has a very strong voice. There were only 28 examples of this model made in 1989. Mahogany, Sitka spruce, Grover Rotomatic tuners, Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, Diamonds and squares inlay, Rosewood bindings, Tortoise colored pickguard. Upgrades are ebony pins with abalone dots, and added strap button, and a compensated bone saddle. The neck angle is superb, with perfect saddle height and breakover angle. The voice is very strong and clear. With original hardshell case.
A very responsive, clean, and original example of Martin's D-18 style 12 fret 12 string. Fine grain Sitka spruce top, Slotted headstock with original Waverly strip tuners, Brazilian rosewood headstock overlay with gold "C.F. Martin" decal, 1 7/8" nut width, Indian rosewood fingerboard with pearl dots, Black body binding and butt wedge, Indian rosewood bridge, Black pickguard, Brazilian rosewood heelcap, Black pins with white dot. Neck reset and refret by Gryphon. No cracks or other repairs. Some shallow dents on sides and back. Very easy response with a clear, complex voice. With hardshell case.
One of my favorite configurations, a cutaway 12 Fret OOO in mint condition. Indian Rosewood back and sides, Adirondack Spruce top, Slotted headstock with Waverly tuners, Indian Rosewood headstock overlay with gold "C.F. Martin" decal, 1 13/16" nut width, Ebony fingerboard with abalone short pattern diamonds and squares inlay, Ivoroid binding with herringbone purfling, Standard 28 style rosette, Ebony pyramid bridge with drop-in saddle and 2 3/8" string spread, Replacement Bob Collosi bridge pins with abalone dots, No pickguard, Zipper backstrip, Original endpin. This guitar has the volume and presence of a 12 fret OOO and the upper fret accessibility of an OM. Rich, yet clear voice make this one a fine fingerstyle instrument. With original Geib style hardshell case.
